Black Amber / Pre-Workout / Buying Guide
Pre-workout does not have to contain sugar to taste sweet. Black Amber Death Row Blue Razz declares 0g sugars per 10.5g serving, with acesulfame K and sucralose providing sweetness. That gives you a flavoured pre-training drink without choosing a sugar-containing drink simply because you want something enjoyable to mix.
For your next tub, look at the formula as well as the flavour. Black Amber Death Row combines individually listed ingredients with 40 one-scoop servings, so you can choose the powder for what it contains and see how it fits your routine.
Sweeteners can give a food or drink a sweet taste without using sugar for that job. The NHS identifies acesulfame K and sucralose among the sweeteners approved for use in the UK and explains how lower- or no-calorie sweeteners are used instead of sugar. Read the NHS explanation of sweeteners.
Death Row Blue Razz lists both in its ingredients. A sweet taste is therefore not a reliable way to guess the sugar content of your shaker. Read the nutrition figures rather than assuming that a fruity flavour means fruit juice, added sugar or a high-carbohydrate drink.
The Blue Razz panel gives these figures for the measured powder serving, before you add anything:
| Nutrition | Per 10.5g serving |
|---|---|
| Sugars | 0g |
| Total carbohydrate | 0.3g |
| Energy | 8kcal |
Check Death Row's complete Blue Razz panel.
The table separates three things that are easy to confuse. Sugars are part of the carbohydrate figure, while calories describe energy from the formula as a whole. A product can list no sugars and still provide calories. If you track your intake, use the complete serving information rather than entering the drink as zero calories because it tastes light.
Mix with water as directed to keep those powder figures relevant to your finished drink. Juice, honey or a sugary mixer would add their own nutrition. Ordinary water lets you enjoy the chosen flavour without adding those extras.
Choosing by sugar content need not mean choosing a caffeine-only product. Death Row's labelled serving includes 5g L-citrulline, 1.6g beta-alanine and 750mg L-tyrosine, alongside taurine, betaine, caffeine and B vitamins. You can check the individual amounts before buying instead of treating every sweet pre-workout as the same formula.
Its vitamin B6 contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism. That nutritional role is separate from the calories in the drink: B vitamins are not a substitute for eating enough to support your training. Vitamin B6 nutrient-function reference.
The one-scoop portion contains 200mg total caffeine. Sugar content does not tell you caffeine strength, so count your other caffeine sources and do not add a caffeinated mixer. Death Row is not recommended for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women; seek individual advice if medicines or a health condition affect suitability. FSA caffeine guidance.

No. No added sugar describes what has not been added, while sugar-free has a limit for the amount of sugars present. Foods with no added sugar can still contain naturally occurring sugars. Read the nutrition-claim definitions.
Compare the serving you intend to use, because scoops differ between products. The per-100g column provides a consistent weight comparison, while the labelled serving tells you what goes into your drink.
Choose the flavour and formula, with the sugar content clear. Shop Death Row Pre-Workout, check your selected flavour's panel and make your next tub part of your pre-training routine.
