Black Amber / Pre-Workout / Duration
A caffeinated pre-workout can have effects for several hours, and the caffeine can remain in your system after the noticeable feeling fades. EFSA gives an average caffeine half-life of around four hours in healthy adults, with a range of two to eight hours. Half-life means the time taken to remove half the caffeine, not all of it. EFSA's caffeine explanation.
That makes timing a useful part of choosing your pre-workout. With Black Amber Death Row, you can see the caffeine amount alongside the rest of the formula and plan it around both your training session and your bedtime.
When somebody asks how long pre-workout lasts, they may mean three different things: when they first notice it, how long a sensation lasts, or when its caffeine has cleared. Those clocks are not interchangeable.
EFSA describes caffeine's stimulatory effects as beginning around 15 to 30 minutes after consumption and lasting several hours. That is general caffeine information, not a promised start time or performance duration for every scoop or person.
Beta-alanine creates a separate timing question. The tingling sometimes associated with it is not a caffeine meter. It cannot tell you how much caffeine remains or whether another serving is appropriate. Our guide to pre-workout tingling explains that distinction.
Take an illustrative serving containing 200mg caffeine. If that person's half-life were four hours, the simplified calculation would leave:
This example assumes no further caffeine and a constant four-hour half-life. It is not a prediction for your body or a timetable for guaranteed workout benefits. The useful point is that finishing your session does not finish the caffeine's journey.
A later coffee adds another intake rather than resetting the first one. Note the time and amount of each caffeinated drink, supplement or energy product when planning your day. That gives you a much clearer picture than judging your total by whether you still feel a buzz.
A randomised crossover study published in Sleep tested caffeine at different intervals before bedtime. The higher, 400mg dose affected aspects of sleep even when taken twelve hours earlier. The study also found that people's impressions of their sleep did not always reflect the measured changes.
The researchers did not test Death Row or establish an exact cut-off for its one-scoop serving. Their finding does explain why a large morning or afternoon caffeine intake can matter later, and why simply feeling ready for bed is not a complete check.
For early training, make the drink part of a planned session. For late training, consider keeping the session caffeine-free instead of trying to fit a strong stimulant close to bedtime. Food, hydration, a proper warm-up and a consistent training plan still belong in the routine. You do not need a stimulant for every workout.
The official Blue Razz panel declares 200mg total caffeine in one 10.5g level scoop. That total includes both listed caffeine sources; it is not necessary to add the total to those ingredients again. The same serving lists 5g L-citrulline, 1.6g beta-alanine and 750mg L-tyrosine.
For you, the practical benefit is a defined formula in one measured drink. Compare the amounts, choose your flavour and follow the mixing directions instead of guessing with several separate powders.
Food Standards Agency guidance advises against more than 200mg caffeine in a single supplement serving and says to consider caffeine from other sources. Do not use a fading sensation as a reason to double the scoop. Death Row is unsuitable for children and pregnant or breastfeeding women; individual caffeine sensitivity also matters.
Not necessarily. The strongest noticeable feeling can fade while caffeine remains. Half-life describes gradual removal, not an on/off switch at the end of an hour or a workout.
No. A caffeine half-life calculation does not apply to a product without caffeine. Its other ingredients need to be considered individually; the words pre-workout do not identify one universal formula.
Do not automatically add another serving. Review what you have already taken and follow the product directions. The drink's noticeable sensation is not a reliable way to decide your next caffeine amount.
Choose a pre-workout you can plan around. Explore Death Row for its complete declared formula, flavour options and serving information, then give your session and your sleep the space they deserve.
