Black Amber / Test 365 / Maca
Maca powder is a food-style preparation of the root; an extract is made by drawing out constituents from the plant material. Choose powder if you want maca as an ingredient to measure and mix into food. Choose an extract-containing capsule when you prefer a prepared supplement, particularly as part of a wider formula.
Black Amber takes that second route. Test 365 contains 750mg of maca 10:1 root extract in its four-capsule daily serving, alongside other botanical ingredients, vitamins and minerals. You get maca extract within the combination, without adding another loose powder to your cupboard.
Ordinary root powder is produced by drying and milling the plant material. It retains a food-like mix of constituents, including starch. Research examining maca roots identifies starch as a major component and shows how it behaves during heating and processing. Read the maca starch study.
Gelatinised maca is another powder preparation. Here, heat and moisture alter the starch structure. The word describes processing; it is not the same thing as saying the product contains animal gelatine. It also does not, by itself, mean that the powder is an extract.
Extraction is a separate step, using a solvent such as water or an alcohol-and-water mixture to draw out plant constituents. The material recovered is therefore not simply whole-root powder in a smaller packet. The preparation method affects what you are comparing. This scientific explanation of botanical extract ratios sets out the distinction.
An extract ratio describes the relationship between starting plant material and the extract produced. It is useful manufacturing information, but it is not a tenfold health-benefit score.
Two products with the same ratio can still differ in extraction method, the compounds recovered and the amount of genuine extract versus added carriers. That is why the actual extract amount matters alongside the ratio.
Maca itself contains several groups of plant compounds. In original analytical research, scientists developed methods to measure individual glucosinolates across commercial maca powder products. Their work illustrates why compound content is measured separately from the weight of powder or an extract ratio. See the maca composition study.
Compare Test 365 using its declared 750mg maca root extract per daily serving. The 10:1 ratio describes extraction, while a specific macamides percentage would require a separate declaration; the panel does not supply that measurement.
A loose powder gives you a food ingredient. A maca-only supplement gives you a single-ingredient choice. Test 365 gives you maca extract within a fixed combination that also includes D3, K2 and boron from calcium fructoborate.
That is particularly convenient when you want the wider combination as well as maca. The formula supplies 75 micrograms of vitamin D, above the routine UK 10-microgram recommendation; check your existing intake and suitability. Our Test 365 vitamin D guide explains the amount.
Better depends on the choice you are making. Extract-containing capsules are convenient for a prepared supplement; powder suits use in food. A higher extract ratio alone does not establish a better health outcome.
Do not assume they are interchangeable gram for gram. They are different preparations. Follow the directions for the actual product you choose, rather than importing another maca product's serving.
Its panel identifies maca root extract without declaring a colour type. Choose it for the stated formula rather than assuming a particular colour or borrowing claims from a colour-specific study.
Make maca part of the combination you want. Shop Black Amber Test 365 for maca root extract alongside D3, K2, minerals and selected botanical ingredients in one prepared daily serving.
